The 2018 California Open DanceSport Championships were held in Costa Mesa from February 14-19.
The California Open DanceSport Championships in Costa Mesa, USA, brings together dancers and dance appreciators worldwide each year. This year’s event was lively and exciting, featuring talented athletes and experienced judges.
Elite dancers from all over the world participated in the competition, representing a variety of styles and trends. Professional and amateur couples competed in standard and Latin American dances, creating an exciting atmosphere in the dance hall.
The event attracted famous dancers whose performances left an unforgettable mark on the audience’s hearts. Their professionalism, technique, and charisma made the competition genuinely memorable. In the Youth Ballroom Champ category, the winners were Danylo Yanchyshyn and Dascha Wright. The bright couple Sofia Iudina and Maxim Vasilenko fought for first place and ultimately became vice-champions. The performance of this couple was brilliant and impressive. As members of the judging panel noted, Maxim and Sofia became clear contenders for victory among the fourteen couples already in the first minutes of their performance.
Speaking of judges… The California Open DanceSport Championships judging lineup was impressive. Experienced and well-known in the industry, the judges guaranteed objective evaluation of performances and maintained high standards of dance art. Among them were such famous dancers as Katusha Demidova, Victor Fang, Donnie Burns, Ricardo Cocchi, Yulia Zagoruychenko, and Karina Smirnoff. This year’s primary judge was the unsurpassed Donnie Burns, 14-time World Champion in Latin American Program, 11-time Champion of the International Championship of America in Latin American Dance, Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and President of WDC.
The California Open DanceSport Championships competition in Costa Mesa included a variety of categories and age groups ranging from juniors to adults. Each category provided unique and exciting performances, reflecting the diversity of the dance world.
