At a company, a product was being innovated upon. All the work done thus far was being recorded in a server. An executive had this query- what if someone could gain access to that by injecting spyware links into an innocuous looking email? This suspicion was not to be made light. The board of directors convened. During the meeting it was decided that since email communication was absolutely necessary to be able to work seamlessly, it was important that everyone in the organization understood and followed safe email, and generally, internet practices. A companywide project was decided upon to drive home secure internet usage.

The project had one aim- to protect sensitive information related to the innovation from threats arising through the internet. Constant control was needed so that the information in the server remained safe within the company. The project would ensure that management and ultimately leadership would be assured of that safety. The project board would constantly be evaluating if the project, through its various activities, was achieving what it was set up for. The project board sought help from two project management consultants-one was PRINCE2 training certified and the other, PMP certified.

The PRINCE2 certified consultant provided all the necessary information so as to draft a business case. One that convinced leadership about the stark necessity of instituting safe internet use. As the project commenced, they advised the management on what to measure as regards to the intention with which the project was started. This was done by consulting with cyber security experts. The KPIs once decided upon, were further regularly reported upon by the PRINCE2 certified person. They made custom reports by measuring what the specific project teams were doing and how safely people were communicating using the internet, as a result.

The PMP certified consultant helped to quantify the risk the internet posed to the innovative product. They also helped determine how the project was doing in terms of schedule and buget. They had a frame of reference ready, one which calculated as time passed by, how much of the project should be ready by what time, and at that point how much of the budget finance should be used. At two points during the project, the PMP certified consultant helped avert time and cost overruns by determining beforehand what the right figures were and by what margin was the project getting delayed and costly.

As you see, both PRINCE2, and PMP certified people contribute to the project. PMP and PRINCE2 offer two different perspectives on project management. This, by training people to develop different competencies. PMP is highly quantitative and objective. You are trained to think in terms of being ahead of schedule, behind schedule, or if the project is over budget or under budget. You are also trained to set project roles into a RACI chart. PRINCE2 is much more subjective and principle based. Here, you are trained to think in terms of different stages a project naturally flows into, various themes, and levels of hierarchy and control a project requires. PRINCE2 and PMP certifications are two sides of the same coin. In conclusion, the project was guided to success because of the various skills the PRINCE2 and PMP certified people each brought to the scene. For More visit: Knowlathon IT Services.
