It is natural to lose about 100 strands of hair in a day. Though it can be an unnerving experience to see strands fall off, it isn’t always categorized as hair loss. Hair loss takes place when these 100 strands don’t grow back. Slowly and steadily the hair growth either slows down or stops. Though everyone experiences hair loss in their life, the reason might not always be the same. To effectively and efficiently target hair loss, one needs to understand the underlying cause. As hair loss can be permanent or temporary, the treatment needs to target the underlying cause. Various effective hair loss treatments are available like Toronto hair transplant, PRP and supplements. We have listed down the different ways to combat hair loss.

Hair Transplant

A hair transplant is a permanent solution to hair loss for those who are experiencing permanent hair loss. There are two types of hair transplant procedures – FUE and FUT. Both methods involve extracting hair follicles and relocating them into the area where there is thinning.

FUE: Also known as Follicular unit extraction, in this method of hair transplantation, the hair follicles from the areas where there is dense growth. The donor area is usually present at the back or side of the head. The extracted follicles are then transplanted into the areas where there is balding or thinning. FUE involves strategic extraction and insertion of follicles, as the number of follicles being transferred varies from 1 to 4. As it involves precision on the part of the surgeon, the results achieved from the procedure are natural looking.

FUT:  This hair transplant procedure is also known as the strip method. It involves extracting a strip of follicles from the scalp and then stitching it up in the targeted area. The donor area for this method is also at the back or the side of the head. Before the strip is stitched up, the strip is dissected into smaller parts. FUT can help to achieve great results when a larger number of follicles are extracted.

PRP

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy or PRP is a natural hair restoration procedure. This treatment process makes use of the active growth factors that are present in the blood. Blood is taken from the patient and spun at high speed in the centrifuge. This allows the growth factors to separate from the other blood components. These growth factors are then injected back into the scalp. It is a natural treatment which helps in the development of new blood vessels, stimulates hair growth and reduces inflammation.

Minoxidil

Available as foam or spray, it is a topical treatment that helps to stimulate hair growth. Minoxidil is an active agent which increases the flow of blood and nutrition in the hair follicles, which in turn prevents thinning. To see results, it is suggested to use it continuously for a few weeks. However, once you stop using minoxidil, the results are likely to be lost. To maintain hair growth is crucial to continue using it.
