As the MLB Season draws near, some players are still unsure of where they will be playing while some teams are still making moves to bolster their lineup.

Red Sox Continues Talks on Betts Trade

The Boston Red Sox are still discussing possible trades for the star outfielder Mookie Betts. There are rumours and reports that Boston continues to hold talks with the Dodgers and the Padres. For the duration of the entire offseason, Betts’ name has been swirling around trade talks while his team also seems set to let him go. According to a report:

‘The team is weighing potential combinations of big leaguers and prospects offered by the Padres as well as the Dodgers, and remains engaged with both teams about the possibility of a deal involving their superstar right fielder.

The fact that discussions are ongoing with multiple teams is not a guarantee that Betts will be dealt. It’s possible that the Red Sox will enter the 2020 regular season with their superstar — with the possibility of exploring his trade value at the deadline if the team is not clearly in contention. But the team’s willingness to consider dealing the four-time All-Star and 2018 A.L. MVP appears serious’.

Reports say that the Dodgers are most likely going to end up trading one of their top prospects besides infielder Gavin Lux and right-hander Dustin May. A deal with them would also mean that the Red Sox will have to shoulder the remaining $96 million left on left-hander David Price’s contract.

The Padres, meanwhile, are asking the Red Sox to shoulder Wil Myers’ remaining contract of $61 million over the next three years. San Diego owns a top farm system and possesses a deep roster, hence the club could keep the trade talks afloat. Most recently, they also included a ‘significant amount of prospect talent’ in their trade deals.

At just 27 years old, Betts will become a free agent after this coming season. This was after he agreed to terms with the Red Sox on a record-breaking, one-year pact worth $27 million for his final season. This beats Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado’s record of $26 million.

Betts, the 2018 American League MVP, hit .295/.391/.524 (135 OPS+) with a WAR of 6.8 in 150 games he played for the Red Sox last season Source link.
