A coalition of parent advocates is calling on authorities to investigate Dallas Children’s Medical Center, which is home to a program that offers to children.

“Parents allow this treatment out of a misguided attempt to alleviate body image issues that would be better dealt with through counseling until the child reaches adulthood and can make an informed decision,” said Natalie Cato, president of Save Texas Kids (STK).

“The long-term consequences [of transitioning] are much greater to the victims of such procedures, but to society at large, we can anticipate an increase in medical expenditures to try to transition these people back to their original gender as is being seen in the UK and the psychological damage that will continue to erode the family unit,” Cato said in an interview. “People have been mistakenly led to believe that, unlike surgical procedures, chemical castration and other hormone therapies are completely reversible. While some physical side effects may be, the psychological toll cannot be fully understood at this time as studies show children are routinely left more confused and despondent than when they started out.”

Cato alleges that the GENder Education and Care Interdisciplinary Support (GENECIS) program at Dallas Children’s Medical Center is giving young children and irreversible puberty blockers, which allegedly cause permanent alterations to their young bodies.

“We think the child chemical castration going on at GENECIS merits a thorough investigation by law enforcement authorities including District Attorney Greg Willis given that Children’s Medical Center Plano lies within his jurisdiction,” Cato told Dallas Express.

GENECIS Dallas Children’s Medical Center said the GENECIS program provides a full range of evidence-based, comprehensive care to support the physical, mental, and behavioral health needs of all children.

“With a suicide attempt rate of up to 41% for children and adolescents with gender dysphoria, there is a need for comprehensive care for these youth,” Dallas Children’s Medical Center told Dallas Express in an email interview. “Given the significant suffering and extraordinarily high suicide rate in these children, offering a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach is needed to help treat this medical problem.”

When asked about the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) determining that genital mutilation is child abuse, Dallas Children’s Medical Center said, “The program provides gender-affirming care. It does not perform gender-affirming surgery.”   However, Save Texas Kids alleges that Dallas Children’s Medical Center does provide mastectomies for teen girls transitioning to the male gender.

Dallas Medical board members Robbie Briggs and Joe Jouvenal did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Briggs is CEO of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty, while Jouvenal is vice-president of operations at McCarthy Building Companies.

“Save Texas Kids strongly believes it is illegal for board members to knowingly facilitate these chemical castration procedures and hopes that Texas law enforcement takes necessary action,” Cato added.
